Litigation Paralegal – Downtown Houston – HYBRID SCHEDULE
Essential Job Duties
- Draft motions, petitions, discovery requests, correspondence to clients and other legal documents
- Prepare for and attend depositions, hearings, mediations, trials and arbitrations
- Prepare trial/case notebooks, motion/hearing notebooks, deposition notebooks, and witness kits in preparation of hearings, depositions, mediations, arbitrations and trials
- Prepare trial subpoenas, depositions upon written questions, deposition notices, and all relevant releases for ordering medical, billing, employment, and social security records
- Perform Accurint and social media searches on all potential witnesses involved in cases
- Perform legal research and cite check using Westlaw and Lexis/Nexis
- Correspond with Experts regarding case related deadlines, case schedules and discovery review
- Prepare deposition summaries and case summaries for attorney use
- Coordinate and maintain large volumes of paper and electronic documents in an orderly manner
- Summarize cases and prepare reports for attorneys
- Prepare document production using firm’s computer software program
- Create timeline of events for each case as directed by supervising attorneys
- Prepare and organize exhibits electronically on firm’s computer software program for hearings and trials
- Research and analyze statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provide written analysis to attorneys
- Professionally communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and firm personnel
- Take the initiative to inform attorneys on tasks needing completion on each case and act as the project manager
Qualifications
- High level of proficiency with technology, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat; experience with iManage preferred
- Experience and ability to work with time-sensitive and overlapping deadlines
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize numerous ongoing projects in a fast-paced and demanding environment
- Excellent organizational and communication skills and attention to detail
- Dependable team player; ability to work productively with personnel at all levels and with minimal supervision
- Must be a self-starter and take initiative
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience with ESI discovery platform (IPRO experience a plus)
- Minimum 5 years of trial/arbitration litigation experience in a law firm environment
- Flexible to work overtime
