Senior Accountant – Crude & Products
Houston, TX
Hybrid Role

Role Accountabilities:

Energy commodities client operating in a fast-paced trading environment spanning Crude Trading, Products Trading, LPG, Biofuels, Petrochemicals, and Shipping, is seeking a Senior Accountant and requiring an experienced accounting professional able to adapt to business needs within set corporate policies and procedures and peform the following:

  • Prepare financial analysis of G&A costs and variances for two entities on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Book necessary accounting entries, including accruals and post-close gross margin adjustments.
  • Oversee the reconciliation of daily and monthly bank statements.
  • Review and approve booking of G&A invoices and expense reports entered by the accounting analyst.
  • Confirm and reconcile inter-company quarterly balances to meet Group reporting requirements.
  • Ensure the regular reconciliation of monthly balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare the annual budget and forecast; present to management for validation, document assumptions, and produce actual vs budget analysis.
  • Manage the analysis of IFRS 16 lease contracts and evaluate the impact on the accounting ledger.
  • Assist the Tax Department and external contractors with transfer pricing analysis and understanding tax implications for entities in two different countries.
  • Work with tax advisors to analyze and reconcile the tax treatment of commercial activities.
  • Prepare accurate and timely tax returns and follow up on disputes and amendments.
  • Communicate with external advisors on tax legislation updates.
  • Enter financial information into the consolidation tool for Group reporting.
  • Assist with preparing the annual tax and financial reporting package, including related note disclosures.
  • Collaborate closely with Finance/Accounting, Tax, Credit, and Operations teams.
  • Mentor new team members, lead projects, and review accounting entries.
  • The company will NOT sponsor employment visas or those on time-limited visas.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance and/or Accounting.
  • 7-10 years of experience in Accounting.
  • Minimum 6 years experience
  • CPA or working towards CPA certification strongly preferred.
  • Strong fundamental accounting skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel.
  • Digital aptitude and familiarity with tools like PowerBI, VBA, and Python are advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of SOX Control, General Ledger, Trial Balance, Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow Statement, and account reconciliations.
  • Ability to meet all deadlines and perform duties in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Proactive and critical thinker with the ability to identify opportunities for continuous process improvement.
  • Willingness to work overtime during critical periods.
