Power Back Office Analyst

  • Serve as the primary contact for operational and invoicing queries, providing support for the Power operations desk and Energy Data management team.
  • Assist with reconciliations and invoicing in the daily and monthly power reconciliation process, and support internal groups in any financial workflow.
  • Provide necessary reports and statements related to physical power activities, including ERCOT, CAISO, and PJM markets.
  • Manage REC confirmations, settlement processes, and reporting requirements through close coordination with the power trading desk, Middle Office, and Energy Data Management.
  • Oversee a portfolio of trading counterparts and ensure accurate deal-sheet/electronic download report validation for all trades within the in-house trading system (the BOOK).
  • Confirm trades with counterparts and brokers daily to ensure accurate trading information in the trading BOOK.
  • Monitor and verify exchange-traded positions and limits.
  • Reconcile the company’s open trade equity to daily statements from clearing houses.
  • Report financial OTC trades to the Dodd-Frank reporting regulators within 24 hours of execution.
  • Reconcile counterpart/pipeline invoices against the system, working with Operations and Middle Office departments to resolve discrepancies.
  • Agree on settlements with counterparts, provide timely payment instructions and cash forecast information to the Treasury team, and assist the Accounting team with aged debt reporting and resolution, including accrual analysis.
  • Pull and analyze settlement statements within the Simba SMS system.
  • Check and distribute all confirmations produced by the systems booking module or from third parties, recording these against the system book confirm module and following up on outstanding confirmations daily.
  • Reports to Back Office leadership for all activities, systems projects, and initiatives..
  • Mentor less experienced/junior team members.
  • Produce role reporting for leadership and/or any ad-hoc analyses.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Degreed in Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, or Energy preferred.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in the Gas and Power markets with a high data analysis component.
  • Understanding of the North American power industry.
  • Strong operational and modeling skills with the ability to implement these using commonly used tools such as Alteryx, Python, and Power BI (PBI).
  • Strong analytical capabilities, especially in energy markets and in a broader economic field.
  • Will NOT Sponsor employment visas or consider individuals on time-limited visa status for this position.

Additional Information:

  • Counterparties include global upstream and downstream affiliates,
  • Spans various commodities including natgas, ethane, shale gas, LNG, LPC, power, emissions, and other.
  • Provide support and testing for system developments, handle regular internal and external audits, and ensure compliance with regulatory obligations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced trading environment as an indivisual controbutor and collaborativvely on a team..
  • Attention to detail at the utmost levels of scrutiny is required
  • Strong sensitivity awaremess and execution in performing regulatory reporting and compliance obligations.
