Senior Accountant

Position Overview
Our client, a fast-growing construction company is seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant to own the full accounting function for their construction operations. This is a standalone role reporting directly to the CEO and is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in an autonomous environment, understands construction accounting, and can manage day-to-day accounting while providing financial clarity to leadership.
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for cash flow management, job costing, financial reporting, and month-end close, ensuring accurate financials and strong internal controls as the business continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Operations

Own the full-cycle accounting function, including GL, AP, AR, payroll coordination, and month-end close

Prepare and maintain accurate monthly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)

Manage bank reconciliations, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts

Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure proper GAAP compliance
Cash Flow & Financial Management

Monitor and manage daily cash flow and working capital

Prepare cash flow forecasts and support payment prioritization

Partner directly with the CEO on cash planning and financial decision-making
Construction Accounting

Manage job costing, WIP schedules, and project profitability analysis

Track project costs, labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead allocation

Support progress billing, retainage tracking, and revenue recognition

Reconcile job cost reports to the general ledger
Compliance & Controls

Ensure compliance with sales tax, payroll tax, and regulatory filings

Support external accountants with year-end close and tax preparation

Establish and improve internal controls and accounting processes

Maintain organized financial documentation and audit-ready records
Reporting & Analysis

Provide financial insights on project margins, cost variances, and trends

Prepare ad hoc financial analyses and reports for leadership

Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and profitability
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

5+ years of accounting experience, preferably within construction or project-based industries

Strong understanding of job costing, WIP, and construction revenue recognition

Experience operating in a standalone or small-team environment

Proficiency with QuickBooks and Excel
-
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently
Preferred Experience

Prior experience reporting directly to ownership or executive leadership

Exposure to process improvement or system implementations

Comfortable building structure where limited processes currently exist
