Assistant Controller
Deer Park, TX
A privately held, family-owned company with approximately $650M in revenue is seeking an Assistant Controller to join its growing accounting team in Houston. The position is open due to continued organic growth, including the addition of a new branch and international joint ventures.
This role reports directly to the VP of Accounting and focuses primarily on domestic accounting operations, financial reporting, and inventory-related accounting. The position works closely with senior leadership, operational managers, and external auditors.

Key Responsibilities

Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, eliminations, and variance analysis

Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reporting

Analyze financial performance and help develop operational and financial metrics to support business decision-making

Maintain and reconcile the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers

Support perpetual inventory accounting, including work orders and inventory adjustments

Maintain the fixed asset database and reconcile fixed assets to the general ledger

Assist with cash flow reporting and analysis

Partner with leadership to develop and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies

Support the company’s annual audit process and external audit relationships

Assist with accounting and reporting for international subsidiaries and joint ventures

Collaborate with branch managers and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate reporting and financial transparency
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
-
7+ years of accounting experience, including public accounting and/or industry

Inventory accounting experience required

Strong knowledge of US GAAP

CPA preferred but not required if experience is strong

Experience working within mid- to large-sized organizations (~$500M+ revenue preferred)

Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)

Experience working with external auditors and financial reporting processes
