Legal Assistant needed to support a busy landlord/tenant litigation practice. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of litigation experience and the ability to manage a high-volume docket involving eviction proceedings, lease enforcement matters, and civil litigation support.
This position requires strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to work efficiently in a deadline-driven legal environment.
Primary Responsibilities
Litigation & Case Management
- Assist attorneys with landlord/tenant litigation matters from intake through resolution
- Prepare, format, and file pleadings, motions, notices, discovery, and correspondence
- E-file documents in Texas justice, county, and district courts
- Maintain litigation calendars and track court deadlines, hearings, trials, and mediation settings
- Coordinate service of process and monitor returns of service
- Organize and maintain electronic and physical client files
- Assist with trial preparation, hearing binders, exhibits, and witness coordination
Landlord/Tenant Support
- Draft notices to vacate, lease violation notices, and related correspondence
- Assist with eviction filings and post-judgment collections efforts
- Communicate with landlords, property managers, tenants, constables, and court personnel regarding case status and scheduling
- Review leases, payment ledgers, and tenant records for litigation support
- Monitor possession deadlines, writs, and enforcement timelines
Administrative Responsibilities
- Answer and route client communications professionally and efficiently
- Schedule hearings, mediations, and client meetings
- Maintain attorney calendars and docket reminders
- Process incoming mail, court notices, and legal correspondence
- Assist with billing entries, expense tracking, and case updates within case management systems
- Ensure compliance with firm procedures and court filing requirements
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of litigation experience required
- Prior landlord/tenant or eviction experience preferred
- Familiarity with Texas court procedures and e-filing systems preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal case management software
- Professional demeanor and strong client service skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in property management, real estate law, or collections litigation
- Knowledge of Texas Property Code and eviction procedures
- Experience with high-volume docket management
