Property Accountant (Commercial Real Estate)

Houston, Texas | Fully In-Office

A well established commercial real estate company in Houston is seeking a Property Accountant to join its team. This role will be responsible for handling the day to day accounting for a portfolio of commercial properties while working closely with property management and leadership. The right person will be detail oriented, dependable, and comfortable managing deadlines in a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review monthly financial statements for assigned properties.

• Handle journal entries, accruals, bank reconciliations, and general ledger activity.

• Complete month end close in a timely and accurate manner.

• Review accounts payable and accounts receivable activity for assigned portfolio.

• Assist with budget preparation, variance analysis, and annual reconciliations.

• Partner closely with property managers to help support property level financial operations.

• Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.

• Assist with audit requests and other reporting needs as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.

• 2+ years of accounting experience, ideally within commercial real estate or property management.

• Understanding of financial reporting, reconciliations, and month end close.

• Experience with Yardi, MRI, or similar property management/accounting software is a plus.

• Strong Excel skills and overall attention to detail.

• Ability to manage multiple properties and deadlines with accuracy.

• Strong communication skills and ability to work well with different teams.
