Underwriting Attorney
Location: Bayside, NY
Salary: $90,000 – $130,000

Our client, a respected leader in the title insurance industry, is seeking a qualified Underwriting Attorney to join their team in Bayside, NY. In this role, you will provide expert legal underwriting guidance on complex title insurance matters, ensuring compliance and facilitating smooth transaction closings. You will analyze title reports, review legal documents, and coordinate with internal teams to resolve underwriting issues while maintaining regulatory standards. Your work will be instrumental in supporting the company’s commitment to high-quality service and legal excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Evaluate the company’s ability to insure transactions, ensuring compliance with underwriting standards and regulations.
• Analyze files for clearance and review preliminary title reports, working with parties to resolve outstanding issues.
• Examine clearance documents such as entity, trust, and estate documents, ensuring accuracy and legal compliance.
• Prepare affidavits and assist in obtaining high-liability approvals from underwriters.
• Review and approve policy language, endorsements, and closing documents to ensure proper compliance.
• Submit FINCEN paperwork and oversee the delivery of closing documents for remote and partial closings.
• Collaborate with recording and escrow departments to resolve recording issues and confirm receipt of funds.
• Provide guidance on sophisticated title and non-title legal issues, mentoring team members as needed.
• Build strong relationships with clients by addressing title concerns and delivering excellent customer service.
• Stay informed about changes in laws, regulations, and industry best practices related to title insurance.

Qualifications:

• Must be a licensed attorney in good standing in New York State.
• 2-4 years of experience in title insurance or relevant legal practice.
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across departments.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and title insurance systems.
