Senior Construction Accountant
Houston, TX | Hybrid
Overview
A growing and well-established organization is seeking a Senior Construction Accountant to support its in-house general contracting operations. This role offers strong exposure to project accounting, financial reporting, and collaboration with both accounting and operations teams. It’s an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working closely with construction projects and wants to grow within a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly construction draw packages by compiling subcontractor billings and direct project costs
- Perform job cost accounting and support tracking of project budgets and profitability
- Post journal entries, manage general ledger activity, and complete account reconciliations
- Assist with month-end close and preparation of financial reporting packages
- Process vendor invoices, subcontractor billings, and expense allocations
- Support subcontract administration, including collection of COIs, W-9s, and compliance documentation
- Coordinate with Project Managers to ensure change orders and project updates are properly recorded
- Manage lien waivers, retainage tracking, and subcontractor compliance
- Assist in maintaining accurate financial data across projects and entities
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- 2+ years of construction or project accounting experience
- Strong understanding of job costing, WIP, and percentage-of-completion accounting
- Experience with general ledger, reconciliations, and month-end close
- Familiarity with construction tools such as Procore, Sage/Timberline, or similar ERP systems is a plus
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
