Jr. Underwriter – Houston, TX – Hybrid
Join our dynamic client’s team as a Jr. Underwriter in Houston, where you’ll key in ensuring Texas home equity loans meet compliance and quality standards. This hybrid role offers growth opportunities in a supportive environment.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate Texas 50(a)(6) and 50(a)(5) home equity loan files, ensuring regulatory and investor compliance.
- Analyze borrower credit, income, assets, and employment using Encompass, DU, and third-party tools.
- Document underwriting decisions; clear conditions within delegated authority.
- Confirm Texas-specific regulations, including LTV limits, fees, notices, and homestead rules.
- Assist in closing by reviewing packages, verifying disclosures, and coordinating with title and settlement agents.
- Support loan processing with background checks, flood and insurance verification, and file setup.
- Manage loan statuses and ensure timely, compliant file completion.
Qualifications:
- 1-3 years in mortgage underwriting, preferably in home equity or Texas loans.
- Knowledge of TRID, ECOA, RESPA, and Encompass.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
- High school diploma required; higher education or specific Texas home equity experience a plus.
