Overview

A growing, multi-state organization is seeking a Payroll Clerk to support accurate and timely payroll processing. This role will focus on payroll execution, compliance, and reporting, while partnering closely with accounting and internal teams in a fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Process multi-state payroll, including time entry validation and data review
  • Audit payroll for discrepancies, exceptions, and compliance with pay policies
  • Calculate wages, overtime, deductions, and payroll taxes
  • Submit payroll and direct deposit files to banking systems
  • Assist with payroll tax calculations, reporting, and filing requirements
  • Prepare payroll-related journal entries and support month-end close
  • Generate payroll and financial reports for internal stakeholders
  • Partner with Accounts Payable on staffing-related invoices and reconciliations
  • Research and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Support compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
  • Assist with audits and other ad hoc accounting or payroll-related tasks

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; Associate’s degree in Accounting or Business preferred
  • 3+ years of payroll processing experience
  • Experience with multi-state payroll strongly preferred
  • Basic understanding of payroll taxes, compliance, and regulations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office tools
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills across departments

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Office-based role with extended periods of computer work
  • Occasional overtime during payroll cycles and month-end
  • Minimal travel may be required for training or meetings
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally
