Payroll Specialist
Direct Hire; 100K to 130K
North Houston
Duties:
- Manage the payroll process, including timely and accurate processing of payroll, in multiple entities based on payroll schedule for each entity.
- Process emails related to payroll and HR matters; respond accordingly
- Monitor entity payroll bank accounts for positive pay decisions needed for ACHs and checks; review balances in preparation for upcoming payroll cash requirements
- Assist employees with payroll, benefits, and 401(k) plan questions/issues (in-person, email, and phone)
- Conduct audits of payroll data to ensure accuracy in employee earnings, deductions, benefits, and taxes
- Coordinate with Accounting/Finance on budgeting and forecasting payroll expenses/adjustments
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations (wage and hour laws, tax laws, and reporting requirements)
- Prepare journal entries for each payroll processed, entering it into the appropriate entity general ledger, for final review and posting by VP of Human Resources
- Coordinate with external payroll processing company the preparation and filing of payroll tax reports, ensuring timely submission of quarterly and annual filings.
- Assist HR with Affirmative Action Plan generation, VETS reporting, annual EEO-1 reporting, and employee training
- Ensure payroll data accuracy and accurate and timely processing of payroll updates
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field required with 4+ years of experience in payroll processing; payroll certification A PLUS
- In-depth knowledge of payroll laws, regulations, and practices, including federal, state, and local tax laws
- Technology savvy and Paylocity a BIG PLUS; data driven and skilled in diverse reporting
- Skill in handling payroll calculations, benefits deductions, and tax withholding adjustments
- Discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism; strong ethics and responsibility
- Strong organization, attention to detail, analytical, and problem-solving
