Job Title: Litigation Paralegal

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Litigation Paralegal to join our dynamic legal team in Houston, Texas. The ideal candidate will assist attorneys with all phases of litigation, from case inception through trial and appeal. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of the litigation process, strong research and writing skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently while providing critical support to the litigation team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Case Management: Assist in managing litigation cases, including organizing case files, maintaining calendars for deadlines, and ensuring timely filing of court documents.
  • Document Preparation: Draft and prepare various legal documents such as pleadings, discovery requests and responses, motions, subpoenas, and deposition summaries.
  • Legal Research: Conduct legal research using online databases (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) and other resources to support case strategy and development.
  • Discovery Support: Assist with the discovery process, including document collection, review, organization, and production. Ensure compliance with court rules and deadlines.
  • Trial Preparation: Assist attorneys in preparing for trials by organizing exhibits, preparing witness lists, and helping draft opening and closing statements. Attend and assist during trials as necessary.
  • Client Communication: Maintain communication with clients, witnesses, and experts, ensuring that all parties are kept informed about case progress and upcoming deadlines.
  • Court Filings: Ensure timely and accurate filing of court documents, including e-filing, in both state and federal courts.
  • Deposition and Trial Support: Coordinate depositions, hearings, and trials, including preparing witness lists, exhibits, and trial notebooks.
  • Billing and Timekeeping: Maintain accurate billing records and track time worked on cases for billing purposes.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies or a related field. A bachelor’s degree is a plus.
  • Paralegal certification from an accredited program (e.g., NALA, NFPA) is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience as a litigation paralegal, ideally in civil litigation.
  • Strong knowledge of the litigation process, court procedures, and legal terminology.
  • Experience with e-filing in state and federal courts.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and tasks with attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, clients, and court staff.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with case management software (e.g., Clio, Relativity, TrialDirector).
  • Familiarity with trial preparation and presentation tools.
  • Experience in specific practice areas, such as personal injury, commercial litigation, or family law.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
